Brixey & Meyer Inc. has plans to build a new headquarters in Miami Township.

The Miamisburg-based certified public accounting firm has selected Miller-Valentine Group as its design/build contractor for a 12,000-square-foot office building. The roughly $1.5 million project is expected to start sometime in September and be ready for occupation by mid-March 2011. However, the project is dependent upon Brixey & Meyer being awarded an enterprise zone tax abatement from Miami Township.

The abatement would eliminate the real estate taxes due on the building for up to 10 years. In return, Brixey & Meyer has said it will hire 10 full-time employees in that office during the next three years. The firm has more than 20 employees at its Dayton-area office. It also has offices in Cincinnati and Columbus.

Dave Brixey, co-founder of Brixey & Meyer, said the firm is waiting to get the final approval from the township in the next week or so. Once the abatement is finalized, construction could start immediately. Otherwise, the firm will re-evaluate its options.

"We're 100 percent prepared to give it the green light," Brixey said.

Doug Meyer, managing director of Brixey & Meyer, said the firm needs more space because of growth and building its own office was the best solution. The firm currently leases 7,500 square feet of space in the Dayco Building in Miamisburg, but would be moving to the corner of Lyons Road and Newmark Drive once its new building is complete.

Constructing and owning the new headquarters shows Brixey & Meyer's dedication to the Dayton area, Meyer said.

"We wanted to put our money where our mouth is, to continue to grow in the Dayton area," Meyer said.

In addition to traditional accounting services, Brixey & Meyer also provides consulting services, chief financial officer services and medical practice services. The firm's clients range from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups and from medical practices to privately-owned manufacturers.

Meyer said the firm's growth has been across the board and a result of pent-up demand from companies looking to grow again.

In addition to space for Brixey & Meyer, Brixey said the new building will have up to 2,500 square feet of space dedicated to growing start-up businesses. Nephroceuticals LLC - a company that makes a daily multivitamin designed to improve kidney health owned by Brixey, Meyer and Dr. John Wigneswaran - likely will move there as well. Brixey said he is working with two other companies that could use the space after Nephroceuticals outgrows it.

Denny Whitehead, senior vice president of business development for Miller-Valentine, said this project is representative of an overall increase in commercial construction activity.

"We're seeing activity picking up for new building projects," Whitehead said.

Last year was a down year overall for commercial construction projects. But Whitehead said Miller-Valentine's commercial construction group is bouncing back this year, and will surpass last year's revenue.

"And we expect 2011 to be even better with what we have in the pipeline," he said.
