Knox Presbyterian Church Building Addition and Renovation of Early- 20th Century Landmark

Miller-Valentine Group to handle historically sensitive addition and renovation CINCINNATI, OHIO (March 20, 2007) – Miller-Valentine Group announced today that it has begun work on the construction of an addition to the Knox Presbyterian Church in Hyde Park. Also included in the project will be a series of renovations to portions of the existing building.

Long recognized as a landmark in Hyde Park, the early-20th century historical church building will be enlarged by a two story addition consisting of new multi-purpose room with an audio/video balcony, a sky lit gallery with a grand staircase, a new kitchen, new classrooms, additional restroom facilities, and a new elevator and staircase for improved egress routes. The addition will total more than 12,000 square feet.

Some of the proposed renovations planned for the Knox Presbyterian Church will consist of renovated space for youth ministry, updates to the existing bride and groom restroom areas, improved access to mechanical rooms, creation of two additional offices within the space, and upgrades to the existing heating and air conditioning systems.

“The opportunity to work with a church so rich in history is very exciting for Miller-Valentine Group,” said Rex Manemann, Vice President of the Design and Renovation Group. “The building addition and renovation work is quite unique in that we have been charged with the task of incorporating the architectural style of the original Knox Presbyterian Church, which dates back to the early-20th century. We are utilizing non-traditional construction materials, such as natural stone and slate roofing, so that the original architecture of the church is successfully carried over to all elements of the renovation.”

Miller-Valentine will be working with architects Michael Schuster Associates in anticipation of breaking ground for the addition in the spring of this year. The addition to the Church is slated for completion in April 2008, while the renovation portions of work will be completed in August 2008.

“This project involves a lot of people with a lot of strong opinions, and Miller- Valentine has had the patience and leadership skills to guide the process along. We are very fortunate to be working with them on this project,” said Thomas York, Pastor, Knox Presbyterian Church “Working with Miller-Valentine has made for an outstanding working relationship. The Miller-Valentine team has been extremely attentive to detail, which always raises one’s confidence in the eventual outcome.”
