Miller-Valentine Group Increases ‘Green Building' Expertise
Boasts 14 LEED Accredited Professionals

Cincinnati, OH (March 31, 2009) Miller-Valentine today announced that ten additional project managers at Miller-Valentine Construction have attained the designation of LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), bringing the company's total LEED APs to 14. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This aggressive effort to enhance the knowledge base and skill set of Miller-Valentine Construction managers is the result of a company-wide deepening focus on sustainable building practices and the LEED Rating System.

"Building solid and attractive structures is no longer good enough in the construction industry," states Chris Knueven, P.E., president of MV Commercial Construction. "Sustainable building is now a critical component in defining a successful construction or renovation project. Bringing LEED Accredited Professionals to the job to achieve LEED certification is the best way to demonstrate that a building is truly ‘green'."

Miller-Valentine Construction brings nearly five decades of commercial construction experience to its clients and has, in recent years, directed LEED certification efforts for numerous projects. The Art Academy of Cincinnati's new home in Over the Rhine is a Miller-Valentine LEED certified historic renovation project. Along with the 2008 LEED certification, the project received 12 awards related to design, construction, historic preservation and redevelopment.

The LEED green building rating system - developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington D.C.-based non-profit coalition of building industry leaders - is designed to promote design and construction practices that increase profitability while reducing the negative environmental impacts of buildings and improving occupant health and well-being. LEED certified buildings offer both environmental and financial benefits, including:

• Lower operating costs and increased asset value
• Reduced waste sent to landfills
• Energy and water conservation
• Healthier and safer environments for occupants
• Reduced harmful greenhouse and gas emissions
• Tax rebates, zoning allowances and other potential incentives
• Demonstration of an owner's commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility

"As a company, we're committed to bringing the most relevant and desirable building solutions to our clients," Knueven adds. "We approach all projects with an open mind; each starts as a blank slate. While our method helps clients to discover the construction or renovation solutions that are right for them, our LEED APs work behind the scenes to enhance a project by suggesting additional ways to earn LEED credits without extra costs, identifying means of offsetting expenses with savings in other areas and spotting opportunities for synergies in a project."
